Health and Wellness

What are you doing to support your health and wellness? Stress and fear can cause havoc on our immune system. It is important  for each of us to incorporate practices in our lives that nourish our minds, bodies, and spirits.

I work in healthcare and have witnessed various reactions, during this pandemic, of how people are handling  it. I have seen deep fear, anger, hostility, anxiety, grief, carelessness, and disregard to name some of the various emotions and reactions.

I have also noticed the horrible behaviors from those who choose the vaccine to those who do not. It is highly important people stay informed while choosing to make decisions for the health of themselves and their families.  We have to stop judging others so harshly for the choices they are making to support their own health and wellness.

So, what are you doing to stay healthy? Many people have coped with the pandemic with comfort food, junk foods, and fast food, drinking too much alcohol, sitting for hours on the couch while watching movies and tv series. While that might be alright  to do for a short while  it is not okay long term.

We need to enrich our lives through healthy foods, drinking plenty of good quality water, getting outside and breathing in the fresh air, being physically active, reducing our stress and anxiety through meditation and other practices that alleviate stress. We also need to make sure we are getting good quality sleep. Our sleep does so much to support our immune system.  Turn off the electronics and use soft lighting one hour prior to bedtime which helps us to settle down for sleep.

Getting away from social media and hours of watching or listening to the news is also important for our wellness. When we get overwhelmed with the news it can make us even more anxious, stressed, and fearful. Give yourself a timeframe for news and social media and then shut it off.

Remember to practice acts of kindness while being compassionate to your fellow friends and family.  We need to support and uplift each other instead of tearing each other down. Having a social circle can help our emotional  and mental health. We might have been isolated during this pandemic but we can still reach out to others and have a good conversation if we are unable to physically and safely get together.

Your health and wellness is important. Start doing things to support your physical , mental, and emotional health today.
